Jubilee Wine Tasting - October 21, 2011

This exciting fundraiser is a small, intimate and fun evening where guests are invited to partake in expert wine analysis and tasting. Each year, a popular local wine connoisseur demonstrates wines from a different region of the globe.

The 2011 Wine Tasting featured wines from the Back Roads of Italy. Our expert wine analysis and tasting was led by renowned wine critic Michael Franz. Michael Franz is a wine writer, educator, and consultant.  He is editor of Wine Review Online, wine columnist for France magazine, and a contributor to several national and international wine magazines. He wrote as wine columnist for The Washington Post from 1994 to 2005.  Franz teaches wine classes for Washington Wine Academy and L’Academie de Cuisine, and is a consultant for 13 restaurants in the National Capital area. Wines for the tasting are personally selected by Michael Franz. (See list of 2011 wines below)

In addition to the excellent wines being sampled, 2011 also marked the first annual awarding of the Claude J. Thomas Jubilee Achiever Award. For more than a decade, Claude Thomas has made a tremendous impact on the lives of people living and working at Jubilee Housing. He has dedicated countless hours of volunteer services to the community by serving on the JSA Board of Directors and rolling up his sleeves with the annual Work Day to better the homes of Jubilee residents. The first award given in recognition of Mr. Thomas' contribution to the Jubilee mission was awarded to Nigel Okunubi, founder of the Adams Morgan Youth Leadership Academy, and a former resident of Jubilee Housing.
